Product details

With Berlin's Tempelhof Airport and the Reich Aviation Ministry, Ernst Sagebiel constructed two key buildings of architecture during the National Socialist era. Other significant projects followed, such as the airports in Munich-Riem and Stuttgart-Echterdingen. Until now, it was largely unknown that Sagebiel had a rapid career as an official in the construction department of the Reich Aviation Ministry and rose to become part of Göring's closest staff. However, his ascent was hindered when Albert Speer, appointed by Adolf Hitler as the General Building Inspector for the Reich capital, became the defining figure with his approach to monumental classicism. In contrast, Ernst Sagebiel's buildings occupy a unique position within National Socialist architecture, characterized by their highly individual blend of modernity and monumentality.
