Product details

In September 1913, the head teacher Ernst Wagner (born 1878) killed his wife and four children in Degerloch near Stuttgart. This marked the beginning of an unprecedented rampage in German criminal history, ending with the deaths of nine residents and the burning down of the small village of Mühlhausen/Enz. Forensic psychiatric evaluations determined that the perpetrator suffered from a delusional disorder, which spared him from the death penalty. Until his death in 1938, Wagner would live in the Winnenden institution. The case files from the trial, which included Wagner's autobiography and the interrogation protocols, were destroyed during World War II. However, copies of essential parts have been preserved in the estate of Robert Gaupp, the Tübingen professor of psychiatry. They are published in full for the first time in this volume.
