Osteoporosis is also known as bone loss. It is a chronic disease of the bones characterized by a disruption in the balance between bone formation and bone resorption, as well as bone density and quality. Osteoporosis can cause bones to break in typical areas such as the hip, spine, or forearm, often under the influence of everyday forces that should normally not cause any harm. The development of osteoporosis is often subtle and frequently underestimated. It affects not only older women but increasingly men as well. Bone loss can often begin in early adulthood. However, stiff bones, ligament tears, strains, and joint pain do not have to be inevitable! Everyone affected can strengthen their bones, train muscle strength, and develop physical discipline to reduce the risk of falls and fractures.
