Product details
In early 1921, the first short story by the then twenty-one-year-old Vladimir Nabokov, published under the pseudonym W. Sirin, appeared in the Russian daily newspaper "Rul" in Berlin. In the following years, from 1921 to 1934, which this volume of "Stories" encompasses, Nabokov finds the direction of his artistic path. The stories "The Return of Chorb" and "Berlin, A City Guide" were written in 1925 and point to what was to come: henceforth, Nabokov would pull his readers out of their familiar world perspective, with "art" becoming synonymous with the willingness to view the world with a sense of wonder, as if through a telescope or microscope. This volume contains the early stories originally written in Russian during his time in Berlin up to 1934, presented in chronological order. It includes several early tales.
