The poem cycle "Lapidarium" by Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov is a poetic chronicle of everyday life and a philosophy of language carved in words. In nearly 50 concise poetic miniatures, the author presents stations of human life and love, ranging from concrete housing estates to village cemeteries, from homemade jam to a loving God, and from birth to death. Interspersed are brief nature philosophical sketches. "Lapidarium" is a life in verses. The short and very short poems are dedicated to the seemingly banal events of normal life. This is where the visual design by artist Gaby Bergmann comes into play: alongside the figurative engagement with the individual poetic motifs (stone and grass, cross and insect), the aim is to depict the organizational principles of the poetry collection in image cycles, balancing between archive and encyclopedia, between linear narrative and cyclical repetition.
