Product details

Badiou starts from two tendencies of ethics: the Kantian concept of ethics, which seeks a rule that can ensure autonomous action in the sense of the autonomous subject of the Western world, and the ethical concept of Lévinas, which is oriented towards the care for the Other. However, both miss the original question of ethics: What is evil, what is good? Badiou's discussion of evil as a manifestation of nihilism, satisfaction with the status quo, and self-deception brings a new dynamic to the concept of ethics. From this perspective, the opposition between Kant and Lévinas, the fetishization of the autonomous subject, and cultural differences also appear surmountable. An interview with the translator and Alain Badiou completes the picture of Badiou's ethics.
