Medicine at the beginning of the 21st century faces the challenge of finding a path from an increasingly fragmented approach to medicine to one that encompasses the individual as a whole. Health and illness are expressions of the interplay between body, soul, and spirit. Considering these three levels, along with the patient's biographical situation, allows for an individualized approach to targeted diagnostics and therapy. It is the primary concern of anthroposophical medicine to honor the individual in medical practice. This collection is based on the international scientific congress "Ethics and Science in Anthroposophical Medicine," which took place from May 6 to 8, 2004, at the University Hospital in Zurich. The contributions demonstrate that anthroposophical-spiritual and conventional scientific perspectives are not contradictions but rather necessary, complementary additions.
