Several book series make the Eugen Diederichs Verlag interesting for folkloristic narrative research: "The Fairy Tales of World Literature," "The German Treasure of Legends," "The German Folk Books," "Atlantis. Folk Tales and Folk Poetry of Africa," and other thematic areas of the publishing program raise the question of the significance of the publisher and the publishing house for the history of the discipline of folklore. The period from the founding of the publishing house in 1896 to Eugen Diederichs' death in 1930 coincides with the institutionalization phase of the discipline of folklore, in which the cultural publisher expressed explicit interest and sought to promote. In addition to book and series publications, which provided numerous folklorists with forums for publication, Diederichs took further supportive measures, such as financial support for a folkloristics teaching position at the University of Jena.
