In addition to the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, there are about 250 other Camellia species worldwide, of which only about a dozen are cultivated in gardens by enthusiasts. In our regions, the descendants of Camellia japonica, C. reticulata, and C. sasanqua dominate in homes and conservatories. The author focuses on all these camellias in this book. Approximately 390 plant descriptions detail their varieties, subspecies, and hybrids, as well as their uses and the horticultural care of the plants. In addition to this specific information about the species, varieties, and interspecific hybrids, the author describes the botany and cultural history of the genus. The discovery history is exciting and informative, as this cold-sensitive shrub only found its way into our gardens through indirect routes as an attractive plant.
