In just ten years, a new district has emerged right next to Zurich's main train station. The new office buildings designed by Max Dudler Architects, Stücheli Architects, Gigon/Guyer, David Chipperfield Architects, Wiel Arets Architects, Caruso St John Architects, Bosshard Vaquer Architekten, Boltshauser Architekten, Graber Pulver Architekten, Masswerk Architekten, E2A Architekten, and Basler & Hofmann have gradually blended with the neighboring area, situated between the historic Sihlpost building, Lagerstrasse, and Langstrasse. This transformation is thanks to the urban planning vision of the KCAP office in Zurich and Rotterdam, which has retained its inherent clarity even in its built form.

The book is a portrait of this new district in the heart of Zurich. It describes its development through numerous detours, the fortunate coincidences that led to its creation, and the completed work. A historical overview anchors the Europaallee in the history of a place and a city that long struggled for the future of this vacant lot. New plans, exclusively drawn for the book, provide an unprecedented overview of all construction sites. Contributions from experts in various disciplines, portraits of local businesses, and historical and newly taken photographs come together to tell the story of urban development in the metropolis of Zurich.
