Fritz Bauer, the Hessian Attorney General and initiator of the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials (1963-1965), gave a lecture in 1960 titled "The Roots of Fascist and National Socialist Actions" to representatives of youth organizations. Due to the significant response and the enlightening effect, the Rhineland-Palatinate State Youth Council intended to provide this text as a brochure to upper secondary schools and vocational schools. This was rejected by the Ministry of Education of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In a parliamentary debate in 1962, which is documented in excerpts in the text later published as a book by the European Publishing House (1965), it becomes clear how little the mindset of the majority of Germans had changed even 17 years after the end of the war. Among others, the young CDU member Helmut Kohl justified the rejection.
