The present volume is a collection of letters written at the end of the last century. From today's perspective, this phrasing has a somewhat metaphorical significance: it sounds like a tale from another time, from the Ireland of the "good old days." But it also shows that such an Ireland never truly existed. The author, a native German, recounts his life on the green island, but also the tensions of that life, which arise from confrontations with a kind of academic jet-set situation. These are partly very personal impressions, but as sociotainment, the volume is rich in professional insights, primarily informed by the author's studies in sociology. There seems to be no way back to that seemingly dreamlike world. But what are the prospects between adapting and going along?.
