The amendment of the Energy Industry Act has initiated the liberalization of the electricity supply market in Germany. In this process, Germany has chosen the maximum level of liberalization with the shortest implementation time. The Second Act on the Reorganization of Energy Industry Law has further tightened the framework conditions for the German energy industry. The new law provides for the unbundling of the business areas of energy supply companies. These provisions aim to prevent cross-subsidization between the individual business areas (network and sales). This separation of business areas, coupled with oversight by the Federal Network Agency, will have significant impacts on the supply industry. In addition to organizational adjustments, it is necessary to regulate the handling of so-called sensitive data within the company.
