Cooperations in Germany's energy sector have been characterized not only since the energy transition by a conflict of change between economic power structures and ecological goals. Society is currently experiencing a boom in the founding of energy cooperatives. How can this phenomenon be explained? Participation in a society primarily expresses itself through social action and the involvement of citizens. Social cooperation arises whenever individual benefits can be aligned with shared values. This book examines the various explanatory approaches and relates participation within energy cooperatives to societal relationships. The social dynamics of an energy transition can be understood as a strong interaction between value concepts and the cognitive mobilization of individuals.
