As is well known, business succession is both an opportunity and a challenge, as well as a risk. In Germany, there is currently a need for approximately 70,000 business transfers per year. These figures explain why the topic of business succession has increasingly entered the consciousness of the economy and practice in recent years. This is particularly true as family transfers have become more of an exception than the rule. However, external transfers almost always face the issue of financing, as this means capital acquisition for the successor. This study addresses this issue. It provides an overview of the options and instruments available for succession financing. The focus is on examining possible instruments for succession financing, making the topic highly relevant.
