According to its information and illustrations, generations of fishermen navigated, but the increasing exploration of the rugged North by yachts made its publication necessary. The book was created based on the Danish manual Den Islande Lods, with its information supplemented by new surveys and findings. The rich illustrations, as well as the detailed representations, still give the book great significance in literature today.
