Product details
The writer Ludwig Börne (1786-1837) is known for his polemical and witty writings, as well as his journalistic commitment to political freedom and social justice. With his nuanced, refined, and partly satirical writing style, he advocated for press freedom and is considered a pioneer of the feuilleton. Börne and Jeanette Strauss-Wohl (1783-1861) met in 1816 and maintained a lifelong friendship, documented by numerous letters. Jeanette Strauss-Wohl, who never entered into a romantic relationship with Ludwig Börne, significantly supported him in his literary endeavors and managed the publication of his estate after his death. The correspondence documents the intense relationship between Börne and Strauss-Wohl and provides interesting insights into contemporary customs and social events. Reprint of the original.
