Product details
Richard Kandt is one of the significant African researchers in history. His successful main work "Caput Nili" primarily consists of articles he was able to publish in Germany during his years in Rwanda (1897-1902). Overall, it is a travelogue in the form of 40 letters. His reports on individual experiences are intertwined with thoughtful reflections on Africans, their customs and traditions, and also on how differences between white and black peoples can be perceived, felt, and valued differently depending on the perspective. Kandt's work, which mainly focuses specifically on Rwanda, stands out in its sensitive and literary writing style compared to other travel accounts of his time. The reader can also discern Kandt's thoughts on colonial administration and colonialism, as well as questions of Christianity.
