Product details
Julius Meier-Graefe (1867-1935), the most renowned German art writer during the late German Empire and the Weimar Republic, had a particular interest in Impressionism. In his extensive double portrait, he engages with two significant forerunners and influencers of this art movement: Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot (1796-1875), who was a member of the Barbizon School and primarily known for his reduced color palette in landscape paintings, paving the way for Impressionism. The younger Jean Désiré Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) played a crucial role in the establishment of Realism, significantly contributing to the development of modern painting since the second half of the 19th century. This is a reprint of the expanded new edition from 1912.
