Product details
The French naval officer and travel writer Pierre Loti (1850-1923) was one of the most widely read authors of his time, thanks to his numerous novels, most of which are set in exotic countries. The backdrop of "The Iceland Fishermen," published in 1886, is the dangerous life of Breton fishermen who travel to Icelandic fishing grounds every spring: the young Gaud from Paris falls in love with the headstrong fisherman Yann, who, due to the social differences between them, hesitates to marry her. However, when Gaud's father dies and leaves her destitute, he agrees to the marriage. Shortly thereafter, Yann sets off on the annual journey of the Iceland fishermen. Anxiously, Gaud waits for the fishermen's return in the summer.
