The innate vanity, which is particularly sensitive regarding intellectual abilities, does not want what we have initially asserted to turn out to be false and that of the opponent to be true. According to this, everyone should strive to judge correctly: for which they would first need to think and then speak. However, for most people, innate vanity is accompanied by loquacity and inherent dishonesty. They speak before they have thought, and even if they later realize that their assertion is false and they are wrong, it should still appear as if it were the other way around.
