Product details
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's 1818 novel "Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus" is still considered a prototypical fantasy novel and bears similarities to Goethe's "Faust" as well as the ancient Greek myth of Prometheus. The researcher Viktor Frankenstein, who hails from Switzerland, discovers the secret of life at the University of Ingolstadt and creates a being from body parts that is as ugly as it is superhumanly strong. However, the creature escapes and commits a series of murders. These acts are meant to force Viktor to create a female companion so that the creature can finally experience love and affection like any other human being. Yet, Viktor hesitates to fulfill this wish, fearing for the survival of humanity in the face of generations of physically superior artificial beings.
