Product details

Honoré Daumier (1808-1879), who hailed from Marseille, was a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist. He became famous for his political and socially critical caricatures, mostly lithographs, which he published in the satire magazines "Le Charivari" and "La Caricature." The total collection of lithographs comprises about 4,000 sheets. Daumier's best works target both the elite of society, such as parliamentary representatives, judges, and the bourgeoisie, as well as the petty bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Little is known about the author Kurt Bertels (1877-1910). In addition to some art historical works, he published a volume of poetry titled "Der Morgenreiter." Bertels tragically died in an accident during a trip to the Orient in 1910 on the island of Corfu. This is a reprint of the original edition published in 1908.
