A collection of literary texts about Transylvania can only be an obituary. Transylvania no longer exists. There is only the landscape in the Carpathian arch, which once bore a multinational character in stone and paper testimonies, but no longer lives. It has become a ruinous monument to itself. An obituary for Transylvania can only be a collection of literary texts. Selecting means not only measuring the written word against one's own criteria but also questioning these with every new text. What is written in this book is not the best from and about Transylvania, but rather what, from the editor's perspective, represents the "best," albeit often blurred or shimmering reflections of this fading landscape. After all, literature is doubt in its most beautiful form.
