Product details

This reprint of a collection of poems and songs secretly created in the Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1943/44 presents a historical document of unique conception and extraordinary presentation. Written in ink and accompanied by illustrations, it contains a total of 47 texts from eleven nations. The collection "Europa u boij 1933 - 1944," compiled as a book by the two Czech women Vlasta Kladivová and Vera Hozáková, offers a unique opportunity to present a cross-section of lyrical self-expressions from a concentration camp, selected by the affected individuals themselves. It represents a microcosm of cross-national cultural expressions within the camp. On the accompanying audio CD, the poems are recited in their native languages by fourteen survivors and five family members of now-deceased Ravensbrück inmates. The accompanying volume includes adaptations by renowned authors such as Elfriede Czurda, Elke Erb, Julia Frank, Irina Liebmann, and others. Additionally, it provides information about the creation of the manuscript and audio CD, the poets and speakers, and offers important background information for understanding each poem.
