Vilem Flusser, born in 1920 in Prague and died in 1991, emigrated to São Paulo via London in 1939. In 1959, he became a lecturer in the philosophy of science and in 1963 a professor of the philosophy of communication at the University of São Paulo. Klaus Nüchtern, born in 1961, grew up in Vienna, where he studied English and German studies. Since 1990, he has been a cultural editor at the weekly newspaper Falter. His columns "Nüchtern betrachtet" have been collected in five volumes. In 2011, he received the Austrian State Prize for Literary Criticism.
