The Württemberg theologian and pastor Johann Christoph Blumhardt (1805-1880), revered by some without criticism and mocked by others as a demon-believing miracle healer, describes his experiences as a pastor in his letters, diaries, and writings. The present selection from the complete edition of Blumhardt's correspondence published by the editor (7 volumes, 1993-2001, over 2,800 documents) provides a picture of Blumhardt's views on the origin of diseases, the power of prayer, spiritual renewal, and the healing of mental and physical ailments. His experiences in Möttlingen and Bad Boll lead him to a theology of hope, anticipating a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit over the entire world. Detailed explanations complement the volume.
