On the 1st Advent of 2018, after extensive preliminary work, the new order of liturgical texts and songs comes into effect. It is a moderate revision of the previous order that was introduced exactly 40 years ago. The new arrangement preserves the centuries-old tradition of liturgical readings, especially the Gospels for Sundays and feast days. It also continues to include the sermon texts in six cycles. Three changes will be particularly noticeable: The number of sermon texts from the Old Testament has nearly doubled and now comprises one-third; within the individual sermon cycles, Gospel, Epistle, and Old Testament texts now alternate weekly; and each Sunday and holiday now features two songs of the week or day, including many more new songs than before. The new order will be implemented in worship services starting from the church year 2018/2019 through three publications.
