Product details

"What we should possess, possesses us, and what is the means of all means, money, becomes for us in demonic perversion the purpose of purposes," said Hugo von Hofmannsthal about one of the central motifs of his famous "Everyman." Since 1920, his modern mystery play, which premiered nine years earlier under the direction of Max Reinhardt, has been a permanent part of the Salzburg Festival and attests to the unbroken relevance of the material: Everyman, wealthy and self-righteous, is summoned by Death before the judgment seat of God. Stripped of all earthly riches, he finds himself abandoned by all his friends, and only the allegorical figures "Good Deeds" and "Faith" can still save him from the relentless grasp of the devil.
