Excessive subjectivity
German, 2015Product details
How can we conceive of ethically motivated actions that cannot rely on any given moral concepts or legality? This means actions that, conversely, radically question the existing normative orders, yet cannot simply be classified as self-serving violations or arbitrary transgressions of the prevailing normativity. The theory of "excessive subjectivity" presented in this book aims at such historically rare yet fundamental (namely foundational) ethical events. The term "excessive subjectivity" is understood as a structural moment, but not in the realization of what ethics, as a philosophical discipline, attempts to prescribe as explainable and justifiable actions. Rather, it is seen as the realization of "the ethical," which emerges in the sense of a contextual break with morality.
