How can one exist when home is no longer home? What does it mean to flee and remain a refugee for a lifetime? And how can one endure the fact that there is no way back to their own country? These questions occupy Tibetans who fled their homeland after its occupation. Fifty years after the uprising against the occupiers, twelve Tibetans share the story of their escape for the first time. We learn how they grew up in the unoccupied homeland, experienced the Chinese invasion, fled at the risk of their lives, found their way to Switzerland, and built a new existence - men and women, farmers and nomads, traders and monks, who have been thrust from the silence of the Tibetan highlands into an industrialized performance society.
