The volume brings together scattered texts in which Jean-Luc Nancy engages with the themes of body and flesh. Sometimes presented in a fragmented manner, other times examined through precise philosophical readings and observations, he considers the body from the perspective of sexual pleasure or the medical, in its boundary function between inside and outside. He also interprets René Descartes on the relationship between body, mind, and soul, or reflects on aesthetic pleasure "at the edge of the function 'art'." Yet, time and again, dance is at the center, as separation and detachment, as the birth of the body and meaning, as an incessant development: "Body, marrow strand, curved around an emptiness, embryo, bent over nothing, wrapped, evolving." The dancing body is a body that separates from itself to find itself, that leaves its form to enter into a new one.
