Why have most attempts to conceptualize the experiment failed so far? Based on empirical studies, particularly from the field of science and technology research, and using a deconstructively refined terminology, Sönke Ahrens defines the experiment as a form of world exploration at the boundaries of the world and distinguishes it from exploration as its complementary counterpart. Education can thus be reconstructed as the experimental form and learning as the explorative form through which individuals engage with the world.
