Product details
Chronicles report on the quantities of amber collected along the so-called Amber Coast. It is said that the annual amount collected from the beaches was between 20 to 30 tons. After severe storms, the amount of amber washed ashore in a single day could even reach 1,000 kilograms or more. The simple act of collecting amber along the shoreline was the most widespread and likely the most productive method of amber extraction. However, other methods also proved successful: amber fishing or amber scooping. In this process, the amber fisherman would stand in the surf with a net attached to a long pole. The net was held in the incoming wave, filling with seaweed and driftwood, among which the disturbed amber had become entangled. The material was then thrown onto the beach.
