The author of this volume, Eduard Fuchs (January 31, 1870 in Göppingen; January 26, 1940 in Paris), was a cultural scientist, historian, writer, and art collector. He describes in words and images the erotic caricatures from antiquity through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the age of absolutism in France and Germany, the bourgeois heroic age in England, France, and Germany up to 1848, and up to the turn of the century around 1900. Illustrated with 202 black-and-white images and 32 black-and-white plates. Reprint of the original edition from 1904.
