The author of this volume, Georg May (1819-1881), was a government veterinarian, livestock breeding inspector, and animal husbandry teacher. Over nearly 30 years of teaching, May shared his experiences in the fields of animal hygiene, disease control, and livestock breeding with many students. He was particularly committed to breed improvement in Bavarian and German livestock breeding and authored significant works on all major livestock species. Many of his books have become important standard references. Illustrated with 62 black-and-white images and 18 plates. This is a reprint of the original edition from 1868.
