Product details

The author Ferdinand Freiherr von Reitzenstein (1876-1929) was a German sexologist who worked at the Berlin Ethnological Museum and the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden. From 1923, he led the anthropological-ethnological collection of the Institute for Sexology founded by Magnus Hirschfeld in Berlin. He was the editor of the journal Geschlecht und Gesellschaft. In this volume, he describes women among primitive peoples from an anthropological perspective, their sexual characteristics, and their beauty. He further discusses the development to maturity, sexual maturity, adornment and clothing, marriage, sexual intercourse, superstition and religion, art and customs, as well as the role of women in art and literature, among other topics. Illustrated with over 200 black-and-white images, primarily photographic works. This is a reprint of the original edition from 1920.
