Product details
Beekeeping in the Leaf Hive - a textbook on the theory and practice of beekeeping, with particular emphasis on the leaf hive and its construction. Illustrated with 68 black-and-white images. Beehouses only emerged in the 19th century, when the need arose to place newly developed wooden beehives in a weather-protected manner. Unlike the smaller apiary and the beehive cart, it is a larger and more permanent structure. With the invention of the frame as a movable honeycomb in 1853 by Baron August Freiherr von Berlepsch, a wooden beehive, the rear treatment hive, became widespread. This beehive was sensitive to weather conditions and required a rainproof setup. The beehives could be stacked in two or three tiers, allowing for optimal use of space in a beehouse.
