Product details
Karl Löffler (1875-1935) was a librarian and manuscript expert. In 1908, he became a librarian at the Württemberg State Library in Stuttgart, where he served as chief librarian from 1920 until his death. Karl Löffler is particularly known for his publications on manuscript studies and library science. In the 19th century, manuscript studies, alongside library history, incunabula studies, and bibliography, were central components of library science. Various scientific disciplines are employed for the research and precise description of a codex. Philology and history primarily serve to establish the temporal and linguistic context of a text. Statistical data is also used to create family trees, known as stemmata, for individual texts, considering their temporal and regional distribution.
