The author Moriz Benedikt was a professor of neurology at the University of Vienna and a specialist in the fields of electrotherapy and neuropathology, after whom the Benedikt syndrome is named. He also researched the pathogenic locations he postulated using a dowsing rod, making him a pioneer in radiesthesia. In the present volume, he describes the dowsing rod as an instrument that is usually Y-shaped, made from a forked branch or bent wire, which reacts in the hands of a so-called dowser to attractive forces or emanations from ores and metals, water veins, geological faults, or hidden objects in the ground.
