Product details
A historical compendium of mill construction from the year 1767. Illustrated with 42 black and white plates. Millwrighting is an ancient craft that was still a recognized trade in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1950s, before it was merged with mechanical engineering during the reorganization. Millwrights were involved in the construction and maintenance of mills. The millwright worked with wood, stone, and iron. A common task involving stone was the sharpening of millstones using a mill hammer, as part of maintenance work. The millwright also frequently worked with wood, for example, when constructing the waterwheel shaft, drive, and interior fittings of the mill. For this reason, the profession was often practiced by carpenters. Metal parts were used for shafts and fittings. Reprint of the original edition.
