Titus Tobler (1806-1877) was a Swiss physician and Palestine researcher. He gained significant recognition for his research work on Palestine. He was regarded as one of the foremost experts on Palestinian literature, sometimes referred to as the Nestor of medieval travel accounts. Tobler first visited Palestine in 1835. His travel experiences, published in 1839 in two volumes under the title "Lustreise in Morgenland," received considerable attention. Further travels to Palestine that Tobler undertook in 1845, 1857, and 1865 were also documented in writing. His greatest achievement is considered to be the compilation of all known printed and unpublished sources on Palestine, which he published in 1876 in his "Bibliographica geographica Palaestinae." This, along with his many other publications on Palestine, earned him the reputation of a pioneer.
