The author Adolf Fischer was born in 1856 in Vienna. An unpublished biography of Adolf Fischer from 1901 reveals that after completing a boarding school in Zurich, he was forced to join one of his father's companies. His artistic soul was in such conflict with the path laid out for him that he ultimately forced a realization of his desires despite all opposition. Fischer retreated to Italy for several years, where he dedicated himself to the study of Italian art; he also undertook two trips to Egypt. After that, Fischer lived in Munich and Berlin to prepare for a world trip. This journey took him to Japan for the first time in 1892, whose art deeply impressed him, and he felt it was the axis around which his life would revolve. In the present volume, he describes the transformations in art.
