The subject-specific didactics of German takes into account the didactics of German as a mother tongue and as a second language. Additionally, it approaches the often-stated demand to integrate language and literature didactics in a new way. The basis for this integration is a differentiation that originally stems from linguistics but is also fruitful for literary studies, distinguishing between written and spoken forms. This differentiation not only separates graphic and phonetic media but also identifies ultimately media-independent concepts of linguistic expressions. To provide orientation in the field of German didactics, the textbook incorporates aspects of concept and medium, while also adding the aspect of reception and production. In doing so, it engages with the demands and realities of educational standards.
