Helmuth de Haas writes in 1967 on the occasion of the first edition of "Fährgeld in Charon" in "Welt der Literatur": "Jan Skácel is a clairvoyant, vivid poet... He has achieved the utmost condensation of abstract and concrete reality and looks content like a cormorant; nothing more, nothing else. There need not be more...".
