The Danube-Auen National Park is located between the European capitals of Vienna and Bratislava and preserves the last large river floodplain landscape of Central Europe over an area of more than 9,300 hectares. The freely flowing Danube River, which runs for about 36 kilometers within the park, is the lifeblood of the national park. Its dynamic interplay with water level fluctuations of up to 7 meters continually reshapes the floodplain landscape. This creates habitats for a wide variety of animals and plants.
