The limitless variety of forms in nature includes the countless bodies of water in the Swiss mountain landscape. Shaped by erosion, as seen in the Verzasca or Maggia in Ticino, the landscape changes over the years and centuries. New, sometimes still nameless lakes emerge from the retreat of glaciers. Winter streams transform into roaring waterfalls after the snow melts. Nature photographer Roland Gerth has captured the water landscapes of the Swiss mountains in the best light – early in the morning, for example, but also during storms and rain or at night. He often spent the night on-site in mountain huts, in tents, or in his car. As a result, he has created images that beautifully depict the uniqueness of the moors, lakes, waterfalls, glaciers, and rivers of the Swiss mountains. He introduces us to around a hundred bodies of water and glaciers, including the Stellisee and the Aletsch Glacier.
