More than ten percent of Germans are affected by alexithymia: they are unable to perceive their own feelings or those of others. Externally, they appear emotionally cold, and their faces are often expressionless. However, feelings are present; they simply cannot be adequately processed by the brain and instead manifest in numerous psychosomatic symptoms. This book provides an overview of alexithymia.
