Lake Geneva is located between Switzerland and France and, with an area of 600 square kilometers, is the largest alpine lake, reaching depths of up to 300 meters. One and a half million people live along its shores, half of whom are supplied with drinking water from the lake. Significant cities directly on the lake include Geneva and Lausanne. While many international organizations, such as the UN, are based in Geneva, Lausanne is an important economic hub.
