Reasons for such a restricted diet include respect for animals, considerations regarding global food supply, and sometimes religious beliefs may also play a role. A vegan lifestyle not only affects eating habits but often also involves avoiding certain clothing (fur, leather) and other everyday items such as cosmetics and medications, as well as steering clear of places where animals are kept in captivity. Recurring food scandals or reports on factory farming contribute to the discussion about veganism.
